Don't let summer slip by without at least one weekend getaway. The power of exploring a new place never fails to relax, restore and reignite my desire to make every day an adventure. Change your view and perspective by climbing to new heights, just enjoying the ride on a bicycle built for two, sliding down waterfalls, jumping into rivers, and watching movies under the stars. The TB&C team shares some of their favorite hikes, rivers, pizza places, campgrounds, B&B's Inns and climbing spots. It's never just about the adventure.... it's about the people, the food, the feeling of the first rays of sunshine, and all the best smells: rivers, mountains, oceans, and breakfast. Check out the mix below of trip locations for the camper, the airbnb lover, and the classic B&B fan and pre-dawn coffee.

Grassy Creek

For outdoor lovers who prefer a bed and breakfast to a thermarest and camp stove,  getaway for a night or two to the River House Country Inn in Grassy Creek on the New River near West Jefferson. Enjoy relaxing by the river, kayaking (provided by the Inn), numerous nearby hikes (Mount Jefferson State Natural Area is loved by the TB&C family), delicious food prepared with local ingredients at the Inn Restaurant, and don’t miss Pie on the Mountain Pizza in Lancing just 20 minutes from the Inn. I love to get the pizza to go and eat it on the lawn chairs by the river.

Beaufort

Head to Beaufort for great coastal biking, adventures to Carrot Island for shell finding, wild horse gawking, swimming, kitesurfing, and sand bar exploring. Paddle board or kayak down Taylor's Creek. Watch the sunset from the benches at the circle where Front Street ends. If you want to seriously treat yourself to some amazing food go to Blue Moon Bistro and order the fried oysters. Best bite for under $15 is The Black Sheep where you can sit on the water and delight in the miracle of perfect pizza cooked in a wood fired oven. Amazing farmer's market on Saturday mornings. Airbnb is the best way to go for a comfy, fun, affordable place to stay. For a romantic splurge for your sweetheart, book a room at the Pecan Tree Inn B&B. And check out the video above of these Sweethearts riding #tandemstyle.

Don't forget to go into Ablemarle to check out the one and only Vac-N-Dash.  The store that is both a vacuum repair/parts business and also a legit running retail store. (They also have an active running community and even put on a night race that starts at the Drive-In!)

Hangout at Hanging Rock is a must! You can make this a day trip but we like to do it as an overnight because why not camp out in the mountains and bring all the friends and do all the things!? Hike up to the fire tower for sunrise, run all the trails, do the 5 peaks challenge,  hike, check out the sweet waterfalls below the visitors center parking area, go bouldering, and always stop for a milkshake on the way home.

Rent sites next to each other for families traveling together. Don't miss the fun of sliding down the rock #notjustforkids, the 600-foot granite face landmark, over 18 miles of trails, great fishing and lots of picnic spots! If you don't want to mess with cooking elaborate camp stove meals, grab some Good To-Go meals at TB&C for healthy and delicious food ready in minutes with hot water.
